Volvo has recalled 59,000 cars with faulty software

Consumer safety lawyer Michelle Victor has called on Volvo to take swift action for owners of some 7,000 cars thought to be affected by a recall by the company.

Volvo is reported to have contacted the owners of five-cylinder diesel models S60, V60, XC60, V70 and XC70 manufactured from mid-2015.

The engines of the affected models cut out briefly, but no accidents have been reported because of the problem.

Volvo has offered a free 30 minute fix for owners who are asked to take their cars to their local dealerships. Owners can check if their vehicles are affected on the Volvo website.

Product liability partner Michelle Victor said:

“It is disturbing that the owners of some Volvo models have experienced their car engines cutting out when driving.

“I hope that the company ensures that the system for dealing with the software repair is robust and speedy.”
